After all he didn’t even commit a crime, everyone knows that Valarie Plame wasn’t even covert…
Oh she was?
Well everyone knows that Scooter didn’t blow her cover… what’s that?
Oh, that isn’t why he was going to jail?
It was perjury?
Oh, Right, I forgot that…
Well, that doesn’t matter because he wasn’t guilty of perjury because he shouldn’t have been on the stand in the first place, since everyone knows that it was Joe Wilson that outed Plame…
What now?
I’m pretty sure it was Joe… that’s what Rush said.
Well, even if it wasn’t him then it was probably Richard Armitage so Scooter should go FREE!
Uh-huh…
You’re saying that none of that matters if he lied to the grand jury.
Umm…
Well, no I don’t know why he would have lied if there was no cover-up. But that doesn’t matter because I’m sure that with any other non-biased special-prosecutor the charges wouldn’t have been brought against him, he’s obviously completely innocent. This was totally political.
Oh…
That’s right… Bush did say he was guilty in his statement but his sentence was way to harsh. So yeah, I mean he did lie a little bit under oath but the sentence was OUT OF CONTROL so Bush let him out.
No, I don’t know why he didn’t just shorten the sentence then…
Well, Clinton totally pardoned people that were really criminals so this is totally OK.
Of course I was really pissed about that then, especially Frank Rich.
YES TWO WRONGS MAKE A RIGHT! CLINTON DID IT FIRST.

Attorney General Alberto Gonzales gave testimony in front of congress today and was presented with a recent poll stating that a majority of American’s (53%) lack confidence in him and believe he should resign. He stated that he wasn’t aware of the poll and that he didn’t believe it.
As an American I certainly don’t believe he’s capable of prosecuting anything in a non-partisan way. I’m also concerned that he’s eroding our civil liberties and guilty of getting in front of the Senate and now Congress and lying through his teeth.
I think we should all contact the attorney general and let him know that we don’t have confidence in him, that he should step down and turn himself into the authorities for abusing his office for partisan purposes. Here’s his contact info:
Email: AskDOJ@usdoj.gov.
If you feel extra motivated you can give him a call and let him know how much he sucks: 202-353-1555
In addition here’s his address if you wish to longhand a message to him:
Beware the ides of March he says. Well maybe in your lifetime Billy, but in my life I beware the ides of April more. Today is a day to be wary. Happy 420 all! And an unhappy anniversary of so much more. I have always heard 420 is the day it is because 420 is the police code for marijuana possession. But we must take the good with the bad I’m afraid so here’s a little list of what to remember to forget about today.
Do me favor, enjoy your holiday and forget what you’ve seen here today, but remember to be careful. And to smoke with a special friend today.
HAPPY 420!!!
It was just released on the washington post site that the “gunman” Cho Seung-Hui at V-tech had written “Ismail Ax” on the inside of his arm. This is some sort of reference to Ibrahim who used it in a violent manner to allow Islam to flourish.
This development will give this story a fairly long tail and really help the fear-mongering of the admin. In addition I’m worried that we’ll see further justification for some of the more odious aspects of the patriot act… It’s going to get ugly. Buckle up.
About a month ago I came across a curious story regarding a large land purchase by the Bush family in northern Paraguay. The source was a bit dubious, so I bookmarked it and filed it in the “hmmmm, that could be interesting” bin.
Well, lo and behold, Wonkette is running a story about the same thing. So, hell, here it is. Call me paranoid, but it looks interesting.
The S.S. Edmund Fitzgerald is not the only ship to sink on Lake Superior, but it is by far the most famous. This is directly attributable to the haunting ballad (mp3) recorded by (mp3) Gordon Lightfoot.
This story and this song have inspired more than one boy from the Midwest to consider a career on the high seas or the Great Lakes. There was even a point this past summer when a couple of 8n5ers were singing along to the Gordon Lightfoot song at a cabin in Wisconsin. There was a shared moment - but that story is for another post.
This weekend, Split Rock Lighthouse will be lit for two days to commemorate those lost in Great Lakes shipwrecks. Think of them and honor their memory when you have a chance.
I’m going to really enjoy protesting this thing… we need to figure out a way to get in!
Recently a federal appeals court in San Fransisco has ruled that a school may ban students from wearing certain t-shirts. This case stemmed from an incident where some students were kicked out of school for wearing t-shirts that say “www.godhatesfags.com” of course my first instinct was to get to that site and see what might be interesting or inflammatory enough to get students to wear not just an offensive slogan but actually do some advertising for an anti-gay website.
I was truly surprised by what awaited me and honestly I found it pretty entertaining. Www.godhatesfags.com is the website for the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas. The church was established in 1955 by the, in-my-opinion, bat-shit crazy Pastor Fred Phelps. The thing about his anti-gay philosophy is how completely obsessive he is about it. It’s apparently the only sin that he really cares about and he associates every other sin with it.
He seems to believe that not only should every “fag” be killed but that everybody in America should be killed because they are not actively killing the “fags”. His anti-homosexuality stance is so pervasive that it has become an anti-America stance. He goes as far as thanking god for soldiers dieing in Iraq because the army is infested with sodomites (news to me, but that might not be a bad recruiting message to try to boost enrollment–I’d consider signing up for sure, I’ve always found sodomites to be really entertaining to hang about with).
I want to be clear that I could not disagree with a person to a greater degree than I do with Pastor Phelps and the following quotes are in no way the opinion of myself or any member of 8&5. I’m putting them here because… well… in a way their pretty funny.
Some of my favorite quotes from www.godhatesfags.com:
“God loves everyone, the greatest lie ever told”
“Conversations on a daily basis ought to include conversations about Sodom!”
“You have got to tell your children all there is about Sodom” (same link as above)
“Going after anal-copulating fags” (also same link)
“Take a good look, America. Here are your typical fag-ass American soldiers”
“Thank God for three more dead troops.”
And my favorite headline “Scarborough Country = Brokeback Mountain“. Now I’ve seen Brokeback Mountain and when I want to hear some lies I watch Scarborough Country and although I do think Joe Scarborough could be a closeted homosexual I am sure he’s not a cowboy. I do, however, relish in the idea of him being attacked by what can only be called an extreme conservative.
Some people may find what I’ve posted here offensive, and I think they should. But we (everybody on earth) need to be aware of what a crazy guy who claims to be preaching the word of God is capable of. The beauty of Pastor Phelps is that even if you truly believe homosexuality is a sin you have to disagree with the rest of the crap he says. Thus it allows people who consider themselves fundamentalists to take an assessment of their beliefs and realize that where they thought was a solid line between right and wrong is actually just something some dude made up and perhaps they need to put some thought into why they believe what they believe.
P. S. The way Pastor Phelps seems to be limited to preaching about homosexuality and nothing else leads me suspect that he’s actually gay.
This certainly seems to be the week for airing the Bush Adiministration’s dirty, dirty laundry. Wired has a statement by Mark Klein, a former AT&T employee, that blows the whistle on the telecom’s complict involvment in the NSA wiretapping fiasco. According to Mr. Klein, the NSA set up rooms in AT&T buildings around the country that were designed to do much more than listen in on phone conversations.
The split circuits included traffic from peering links connecting to other internet backbone providers, meaning that AT&T was also diverting traffic routed from its network to or from other domestic and international providers, according to Klein’s statement. The secret room also included data-mining equipment called a Narus STA 6400, “known to be used particularly by government intelligence agencies because of its ability to sift through large amounts of data looking for preprogrammed targets,” according to Klein’s statement.”Despite what we are hearing, and considering the public track record of this administration, I simply do not believe their claims that the NSA’s spying program is really limited to foreign communications or is otherwise consistent with the NSA’s charter or with FISA,” Klein’s wrote. “And unlike the controversy over targeted wiretaps of individuals’ phone calls, this potential spying appears to be applied wholesale to all sorts of internet communications of countless citizens.”
His testimony strengthens the case that the NSA (and those who authorized the program) acted unconstitutionally.
