I just got a link to this story from a friend and it seemed like perfect 8 and 5 material:

and to accompany it, you must view http://www.badgerbadgerbadger.com/

It’s only a matter of time before someone builds a Badger, Badger, Badger, and substitutes the Mushroom for Muslim or Mukhtar or something. I’d do it if I wasn’t somewhat busy at work today.

International Talk Like Bob Dylan Day

In case you didn’t know, today (May 24) is International Talk Like Bob Dylan Day. In honor of this, I have been talking like Bob Dylan all day. Needless to say, the woman in Montreal I had a conversation with this morning was a bit confused — and I think it may have cost me the chance to have her translate a press kit. Oh, well.

Tonight at the 400 Bar(f) there is its Annual Bob Dylan Sound-Alike-Contest.

I am seriously considering entering my “Lay Lady Lay” impersonation…Maybe not, though. I have been sick and I don’t know if my voice is up to the task, at last, in the blast of the past news, blues…

Biggest Comeback in NCAA Division One Bowl History

Glen Mason’s Biggest Hits (in no particular order):
Purdue at Minnesota in 2001.
Gophers punt the ball to the Boilermakers and Purdue gets the ball deep in its own territory with 19 seconds left. The Boilermakers complete two passes and kick a tying field goal with one second left in regulation. Gophers lose in overtime.

MicronPC.com Bowl in 2000
Minnesota led N.C. State 24-8 at the half, but allowed the Wolfpack to comeback and win the game. The Gophers couldn’t capitalize on a 246-yard rushing game by its running back.

Michigan at Minnesota in 2003.
Gophers were leading 28-7 at the start of the fourth quarter. The team was routing one of the top-ranked teams in the nation. The Wolverines, however, didn’t quit. The Gophers collapse and lose the game despite outrushing Michigan 424 to 92.

Wisconsin at Minnesota in 2005.
Minnesota led the game 34-24, but 1:17 later, the team was only leading by three. A big personal foul penalty led to a Badger touchdown. The Gophers then botched the onside kick, yet the Gophers still recovered the ball at its own 11-yard line (don’t ask). The Gophers couldn’t get a first down. The snap to the punter was bad, yet instead of booting the ball through the endzone to give Wisconsin a safety, the punter tries to save it. The punt is blocked, Badgers recover in the end zone to take the lead. It doesn’t end there. The Gophers fumble the ensuing kickoff, Wisconsin recovers and runs the clock out for the win.

Insight Bowl in 2006.
No team in Division I history has lost in a bowl game after leading by 31 points. Gophers were leading 38-7 at halftime, yet lose the game in overtime.

Congrats Robert Fitzgerald and Mark Kennedy Eats 4-H Animals

LemurIf you didn’t get to hear the Minnesota senatorial debate last night, I commend you do. MPR has the audio available on line here.

Robert Fitzgerald, Independence Party candidate and college buddy of many 8&5ers did a great job. If I wasn’t so desperately afraid of how much worse our country could get under further neo-con fascist control I’d probably vote for him.

Mark Kennedy was in rare form though, it has to be tough to articulate the republican agenda because when he was forced to talk about national neo-con issues like supporting torture and spying on American’s he was clumsily looking for the right words. Here’s a suggestion Mark, when trying to say you want to take away our freedom just say: “I want the terrorists to win”.

In addition to his authoritarian babbling Mark also mentioned that he “May be the only one up here that has eaten a 4-H animal that they raised.” Since he wasn’t specific I’m going to assume he means he ate his dog, cat, parrot or horse. I think there’s even a small chance he ate a Lemur. This sort of behavior suggests an evil side to Mark Kennedy that needs to be exposed. I don’t know about y’all but I don’t want a lemur-eating, terrorist-loving, pedophile-protecting Satanist as my Senator.

Mel Gibson has a new movie coming out entitled “Apocalypto.” Go and watch the teaser trailer here and pause the trailer around 1:46 into it when you see the people in white paste for the second time. For a single frame, you can see Gibson looking all crazy with a cigarette hanging from his mouth.

Seriously.

Clearly this is supposed to get more people to watch the trailer due to blog entries like this one. Or it could be more evidence Gibson is crazy. So, yeah, it worked, Gibson. It still doesn’t mean I’ll go and watch your movie, though.

Wii thinks this bodes well

wiimoteWii will change things. Yesterday and today Nintendo held press conferences in both Japan and America revealing nearly all of the secrets of the Wii their inventive new gaming console. Secrets that make me less inclined to call it a gaming console.

The console’s of old had clumsy interface devices that made them miserable PCs especially when the main thing people used PCs for was word processing and then printing. When companies tried to move the PC to the living room they were always too complicated and the mouse and keyboard work miserably from the couch. In the last 5 years PCs have become entertainment devices (youtube) and printing has become moot (email). The time is right for some convergence.

In steps Nintendo with the Wii Remote or Wiimote as it shall further be know. An incredibly inventive interface device. Although initially just a brilliant game controller it would become immediately obvious to anyone that it is also the perfect mouse. This with the proliferation of the internet put Nintendo in the unique position of being the company to bring the internet to our TVs and with it our PCs.

Their next step? Wii Channels of course. Wii Channels are the first thing you encounter when you turn on your Wii (that sounded kind of dirty). You can choose to play a game or go to Wii Forecast where you encounter an interface similar to Google earth to give you weather reports–without the silly weather men or the sillier commercials or the silliest-having to wait for that segment of the news to start. Alternatively you could visit Wii News, which I expect to be very customizable (hopefully it will support RSS feeds) and designed for the Wii allowing easy zooming to accommodate the lower resolutions of a TV. Perhaps you have your family over and don’t want to start up your PC and truck everyone into the den to see the photos from the last camping trip, so instead you stick your SD card into your Wii (again I feel a bit dirty) and go to the photo channel which has an easy interface to display your pictures with. Then there is the Internet Channel which is essentially the Opera web browser made for the Wii if this allows for YouTube watching… well… even though she’s staged I’m still going to enjoy LonelyGirl15.

If the Wii supports Java and I can run Google spread sheets and writely along with my gmail on it… I no longer need a PC. Damn.

When the Wiimote first came out I predicted it would change computer mice and television remotes… now I say the Wii will change computers. See you in line on November 19th! WIIIIIIIII!!!!!!!

Fitzgerald On The Radio

Not sure what everyone’s stance on Robert’s run for the US Senate is, but I thought I’d throw out a heads up for anyone interested. Minnesota Public Radio is holding a senatorial debate at the MN State Fair this Friday, September 1, at 11 a.m., with three of the candidates. This debate includes Independence Party candidate, and UMM alum, Robert Fitzgerald.

I think it will be interesting to hear how he does in the debate against Republican Mark Kennedy and Democrat Amy Klobuchar. I am not endorsing him, but it isn’t every day you get to hear someone you know debate the issues on the same stage with two money-grubbing, party-line fools.

You can tune your radio into MPR for its Midday broadcast or listen via the Web.

It is archived here.
