We don’t let our hair grow long and shaggy in Lexington

According to Ms. Mcbrearty’s editorial in the Lexington Herald-Leader, hippies are still trying to run this country. We can only hope. As I read the editorial, the song “Okie From Muskogee” by Merle Haggard kept running through my head. Particulary the chorus: “I’m proud to be an Okie from Muskogee / A place where even squares can have a ball / We still wave Old Glory down at the courthouse / And white lightnin’s still the biggest thrill of all”.

It must be nice to live in Mcbrearty’s world. A world where leather boots are still “manly footwear” and no one would be caught dead wearing “beads and Roman sandals”. Can I please join this world? One where everyone respects authority, even when it is telling you to jump off a bridge. One where authority repeatedly tasers you, while ordering you to stand up. One where the National Guard is called in to kill student protesters. One where an administration can lie to the people repeatedly while young boys die for nothing.

I particularly enjoyed reading this passage from the editorial:

Whose life is more important: the 12-year-old Iraqi firing an Uzi or a soldier from Kentucky?

So that is what it has come down to, eh? A zero-sum game. Either I support the troops, or I support the people killing the troops. It is that simple in her world. Must be nice to live in a world where there are no thoughts to as why a 12-year-old kid would want to kill an American in the first place. Nice touch by using a 12-year-old, and I doubt it is an Uzi.

More than likely it is one of the thousands of AK-47s the CIA funneled into Afghanistan or Latin America during the 1980s, or an IED made from explosives we lost track of. An even simpler explanation is the kid got the gun from us, directly, within the past four years.

I wonder if she ever thought of anything like that? My guess is no.

But this is the best passage from the editorial:

In their heart of hearts, lefty loonies do want America to lose in Iraq and every military theater. They want outside enemies to accomplish quickly the demolition of American capitalism, using the violence the lefty loonies are too old, too scared and too well-invested to use.

Aha! This is a eureka moment for me. Yes, that is what I am feeling. I want America to “lose”. Again, so simple. Win or lose. That is all there is. Hippies want us to “lose” this “war on terror.” Oh, and that is not enough apparently, I also want to see America collapse. This makes things so easy for me. I was too young in the ’80s to want the Soviet Union and the Communist Party to “win,” so now I can hope for the “terrorists” to “win.” After all, life is much better when you have an enemy to hate. If it isn’t the Communists or Terrorists, it is the hippes. Hippies are easy to hate. They don’t work very hard and if they don’t stink of patchouli oil, they stink of BO.

This is great. I predict we’ll be seeing another Hard-Hat Riot any day now. This is the America I never really knew. In the 90s there were no enemies to hate — I guess that is why things were so prosperous? Now, just like the 1950s through the 1980s, we have someone as bad as the Communists to hate! Boy, oh, boy…bring on the hippies and bring on the terrorists!
