O.J. Needs Money

Posted on Wednesday, November 15, 2006 in Pop-Culture, Television

Message to O.J. Simpson: Buddy, think about what you are doing for a minute. You were acquitted of murder after being the sole — and most logical — suspect. All I know is a court found you not guilty and you were free to golf all you wanted. Yet, you got to be stupid for cash, don’t you?

Simpson is releasing a book and going to appear on television outlining how he would have committed the grisly killings if he did them. Please don’t tell me he is going to critique the killer’s methods and offer up suggestions on what would have made for a better murder.

Give me a break. Do you want me and the other five people in America who really want to believe you didn’t commit the killings to turn on you? Apparently. Yeah, call me stupid for actually thinking the court did its duty, but I think I will change my position on your innocence, Simpson. Thanks, thanks a lot, bud.

While it is for money, this also appears to be an attempt for Simpson to cleanse his conscience. The guilt that’s been building for 12 years is finally bubbling to the surface. It just proves how powerful guilt really is, doesn’t it? He needs money, and he feels a powerful guilt. What better way to get money and shed guilt than by shopping a book and TV deal? I am sure he only needed to go to one place to get it done, Fox and a subdivision of its HarperCollins, ReganBooks (Judith Regan).

“Yeah, yeah Mr. Simpson, sure, we’ll get your story out there. Yeah, what a great concept, what if you actually committed the killings, what would you have done. Yeah, we get it, great idea!”

From a Fox statement:

“O.J. Simpson, in his own words, tells for the first time how he would have committed the murders if he were the one responsible for the crimes,” the network said in a statement. “In the two-part event, Simpson describes how he would have carried out the murders he has vehemently denied committing for over a decade.”

  1. to me it almost seems like a fruedian slip. when i make a mistake i have a tendency to go over it in my mind and pinpoint all the things i did wrong. i think the fact that he has even given thought (much less a books worth) to how the crime could’ve been done right is just more evidence to his guilt. very clever oj. i guess thats why he was a football player and not something that required using his brain.

  2. Do you think someone would go to prison if they were to read the book and then kill OJ according to the methods outlined in the book?

Or would an American jury just figure, “Yeah, OJ killed his wife and he deserved to die. Now we’ll call it even.”

  3. This is the way people attack NAMBLA and by association ACLU. That case was based on the fact that NAMBLA published something that could be used to seduce boys. I’m with the ACLU on this one, free speech means you can say/write anything.
