I Am A Bit Concerned At The Timing

Posted on Monday, October 30, 2006 in Ask EightAndFive, Politics, War, neocons

Right now, according to this article, five countries are sending military ships to the Persian Gulf for some exercises. According to the article it is to flex a little muscle and demonstrate to Iran that it will not be able to ship nuclear material from its ports.

I’ll put on my conspiracy theory hat right now. The Vietnam war started in a gulf, too. The Gulf of Tonkin. In the middle of the night, according to reports at the time, the USS Maddox was attacked by a North Vietnamese torpedo boat during questionable circumstances. Two days later, another report of an “unprovoked” attack on another ship was reported. That was all it took to spark the war. Documents unearthed decades later prove the second story was a fabrication.

Let’s just play the conspiracy out. Rove and Bush need the Republicans to win. Who cares if they are uncharacteristically upbeat when all signs point to a GOP defeat, that is their job (especially Rove’s). Anyway, what if there was something else they knew about? What would mobilize Republican voters and shove the undecideds and independents to the GOP? How about a Gulf-of-Tonkin-like attack by Iran in the Persian Gulf?

Think about it. Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, even Rove could face some nasty investigations if the Democrats take over both the House and Senate. It could be ugly, they have everything to lose in the face of the Democrats taking over Washington when the administration has two years left. Think of what two years worth of investigating could uncover on these crooks?

I really don’t want to believe in conspiracies, but my resistance is being broken down by the lies I hear every day. Every. Single. Day.

And we don’t even want to think of the implications of this little item Bush has at his disposal now, do we?

Am I crazy here? Help me out.

  1. Even if the power is not abused by President Satan, it is likely somewhere down the road some bastard will do it.

I do not believe American troops would indefinitely follow orders killing U.S. civilians. I think it is possible for a limited engagement but I would hope that public outcry would end any Martial Law.

  2. I hear ya, bongo. But look at the sheeple in this country. Imagine hysteria breaking out in a massive bio attack. This guy destroyed habeas corpus and there was a tiny whimper of dissent.

All I am saying is that the President no longer has a check on when he can declare martial law and we need to be concerned.

  3. I don’t think an act of war will rally their voters anymore. People are sick of it and they are already questioning the justification for the last one. Even if they were to start another bullshit war it wouldn’t help anymore… in fact I think it would hurt them.

  4. Also, we routinely practiced a “hostile takedown” of a soccer stadium in addition to jungle, desert and air assault warfare when I was on active duty in the early 1990s.

    It’s what we did.

And we did all of this AFTER the cessation of hostilities of the first Gulf War - so even if our Armed Forces are not actively engaged in war, they are always practicing to go to war and going on maneuvers and other training exercises.

  5. I agree with you 100%.

Checks and balances have been chipped away at since the neo-con thug patrol was thrown into the mix.
