I agree, it should be fair game… Tell that to the Kennedy camp. To them it doesn’t matter how legal or illegal this thing is, their using it for political gain “taking precautionary measures to protect our campaign information â€¦ The full features of our Web site will be restored once this matter has been resolved.” -the message on their website.

I guess what yall are suggesting is that Klobuchar should have done nothing. But I think that would have made her look worse. I can see “Klobuchar staffer allowed to hack into Kennedy’s website and obtain secret information… LIKE WATERGATE!”

Oscar, what is the difference between being fired and being asked to step down? Seems to be one in the same, to me.

I think the litmus test in this case on to whether it was hacking or not, is the fact that you could be sent an unsecured URL to gain access to the content. To me, that shows it is wide open to the public

Even if they would have told the Kennedy campaign they would have freaked out. The blogger didn’t get in trouble and the Klobachar contact was asked to step down, not fired. Again I don’t think there was any other choice in this circumstance… The FBI is a moot point, the dude didn’t get in trouble–additionally I would have gone to the FBI first to make sure it was legal. If it turns out that there was illegality involved going to the Kennedy peeps would have made it look like they were trying to hide something illegal. Now no one can accuse them of that at least.
