Klobuchar is Computer Phobic
I just thought I would write down another take on the recent story from WCCO and others about the Klobuchar campaign. Apparently a local blogger found a yet unreleased ad from the Kennedy campaign and sent a link to his favorite campaign to ruminate over before it went live. The Klobuchar campaign thanked him by turning him in to the FBI and made false statements to the local media, about having circumvented passwords. This kind of computer phobia makes me really upset, don’t put data out on a public network if you don’t want people to see it, copy it, and talk about it. I think its time to consider alternatives for November.

Ummm… there is no alternative.

Not only that, but they fire the person from the campaign who looked at it. I am sure Klobuchar’s press secretary didn’t think visiting an e-mailed link would be grounds for firing, or warrant an FBI investigation.
And, of course, Kennedy’s campign is doing everything in its power to show that it was the Klobuchar campaign that did something illegal and not its own campaign that did something stupid.

OK, so E is holding this against Klobuchar because they shouldn’t have overreacted when the guy didn’t do anything illegal, but the Kennedy campaign is saying they’re hackers and breaking into our computers.
That kennedy development makes me think that the overreaction was not only justified but completely necessary. If Klobuchar didn’t do anything they’d have nothing to defend against the baseless claims.
…I guess they could have defended themselves by saying they did nothing wrong, but that would be lost. Remember when Lieberman’s website exceeded it’s bandwidth (or they didn’t pay to keep it up or something to that effect) he claimed he was hacked and that’s the only thing that matters, that’s what the media said and that’s what people think. This is a lose-lose situation. It’s almost like Klobuchar was set up. I didn’t watch the add but the repercussions of it couldn’t be nearly as great as the leaking of it. Big win for Kennedy. Vote for Amy.

Well, E got his information from a pro-Kennedy blog so of course it would seem like a Kloubachar fuck-up. The StarTribune has a different take: http://www.startribune.com/587/story/690588.html
I don’t know what to believe but I do know the country cannot handle another second of a Republican majority in all branches of Government.
Fuck it, you all may as well go enlist. http://www.goarmy.com
Oh, and if you go to Mark Kennedy’s website right now the ONLY link they left functioning is…….the contribute link. They are milking this for political gain.

HA HA. I went to the Kennedy page. What a complete rube, man. He is such a dweeb.
Didn’t he criticize Dayton for what he saw as an overreaction when the Senator closed his office in Washington, D.C.? I’d say this is a wee bit of an overreaction, too.

And we are going to trust the future of the internet and the “net neutrality” debate to these idiots…

In reply to Sscar: They should have told the Kennedy campaign, not the FBI… Law enforcement should keep out of the internet when ever possible–code is the law, and I hope it will stay that way.

Even if they would have told the Kennedy campaign they would have freaked out. The blogger didn’t get in trouble and the Klobachar contact was asked to step down, not fired. Again I don’t think there was any other choice in this circumstance… The FBI is a moot point, the dude didn’t get in trouble–additionally I would have gone to the FBI first to make sure it was legal. If it turns out that there was illegality involved going to the Kennedy peeps would have made it look like they were trying to hide something illegal. Now no one can accuse them of that at least.

That is hilarious.

Again I don’t see an alternative. Your choice is naive versus evil.

Oscar, what is the difference between being fired and being asked to step down? Seems to be one in the same, to me.
I think the litmus test in this case on to whether it was hacking or not, is the fact that you could be sent an unsecured URL to gain access to the content. To me, that shows it is wide open to the public

I agree, it should be fair game… Tell that to the Kennedy camp. To them it doesn’t matter how legal or illegal this thing is, their using it for political gain “taking precautionary measures to protect our campaign information … The full features of our Web site will be restored once this matter has been resolved.” -the message on their website.
I guess what yall are suggesting is that Klobuchar should have done nothing. But I think that would have made her look worse. I can see “Klobuchar staffer allowed to hack into Kennedy’s website and obtain secret information… LIKE WATERGATE!”

I am saying the firing was a bit much. I couldn’t care less what else the Klobuchar campaign does.
