I’m watching Orrin Hatch defend Alito during the hearings right now, and I’ve come to the conclusion that his head has a strong sense of “Butt” about it. It’s elusive but there is a pronounced “Butt” quality. It could be the shape or how he uses his mouth which is a bit sphincter-like. Also everything he says is crap.

The Enron Disgrace

The Houston Chronicle has maintained an Enron “Special Report” section since the scandal played out in the media. It’s a well constructed archive and reading it over gives one a wide overview of just how deep the scandals ran in that company.

With the trial under way, I thought the EightAndFivers and any other readers might appreciate a searchable Enron e-mail archive hosted at Berkeley: Try fun terms like: Republican, President, or Fox News…just for the heck of it.

I wish the jury could send them to the electric chair.

I just ran into this video that appears to be made entirely in World of Warcraft, and its a song about the internet and porn. It’s also really funny and a sort of strange convergence of memes… definitly worth a check.

Mehlman
Here’s Ep 4. It is a play by play of Ken Mehlman’s (chairman, RNC) speech at the RNC’s winter meeting. If your offended by the term “douchebag” you may want to avoid this episode, if you like it… Listen!

This doesn’t actually look that scary. The game was scary though and it does look pretty true to the game, I didn’t see any of the “babies” with knives from the first Silent Hill and I miss them dearly… hopefully they’re there.

Giving Peace a Chance

What have YOU done to give peace a chance lately?

I have done nothing.

I thought I was doing something grand prior to the 2004 Presidential Elections. I gave money to Dean, I gave money to Edwards - and attended rallies for Edwards. When Kerry pulled ahead, I gave money to Kerry.

I thought it was all about getting the warhawks out of office. I figured if Bush and Cheney were removed from running the show, then peace, love and happiness would follow.

It’s 2006 now. We’re going on a full two years since we were Bush-whacked and inherited another four years of lies, disinformation, truthiness and deception.

Nothing has changed, in fact, things have gotten worse. Last week an AEA presentation tagged the final bill for the war in Iraq (a.k.a. the War on Terror) to between $1 TRILLION and $2 TRILLION dollars.

And I haven’t done a thing about it.

I bitch about how things are going, I cringe for the dead soldiers and I go about my daily business. There isn’t any more talk about the on-going war. It could be because people already know where I stand - a veteran of Gulf War 1 who is passionately opposed to war - and they don’t even challenge me or ask me about it.

I don’t know if this is because they KNOW this war is wrong and they KNOW the American people were WRONG to re-elect the criminals back into the Oval Office or if they are just too self-absorbed to care about something occurring over 8,000 miles away.

This is what the neocons knew would happen eventually. The American people no longer think about war, and those that do are regarded as fanatical as the rubes who elected GWB back into office for a second term.

There was a moment where musicians released freely downloadable peace songs as MP3s but they have all vanished - and Green Day, the toast of 2005 and Grammy winners for Best Rock Album of 2004, don’t even have their song linked anymore. I link Life During Wartime here for your listening pleasure. The Beastie Boys, Cat Stevens, Lenny Kravitz and John Mellencamp all came out with songs with pro-peace and anti-war themes - but all of them have dropped the ball as this war has dragged on.

Nobody seems to give a second thought about the scandals that have rocked America over the course of the past six years: Enron, Tyco, Worldcom, and amongst all the myriad screwings the White House has done to the American people they are now clamming up on the Abramoff scandal. They obviously believe that if they remain silent that the American people will forget.

No way. I am not going to forget. I am not going to shut up. I am going to talk to anybody who will listen and I will use every opportunity to interject why this Administration is corrupt and why this war is wrong. I will debate it with whoever will debate it. I will even admit it when I am wrong…which is far more than George W. Bush or Dick Cheney will ever do.

On a moral note, I will even suggest impeachment. How can a moral person go to bed each night knowing that this false prophet they elected and re-elected at as a President not only lied to them about rationale for war, but is happily sending their sons and daughters off to fight and die on foreign soil? What has Bush’s family done for the war effort? When will his daughters sacrifice their posh lifestyles for Federal Service?

I haven’t been giving peace a chance. I have been overwhelmed and apathetic since the good guys lost in 2004. But in 2006 and beyond I do not want to see evil prevail. I will tell whoever will listen: Bush and his entire troop of neocons must go! And I don’t want new neocons to come in to continue to ruin America - I want them all out of office!

Any Bad Books Lately?

I am currently reading The President’s Assassin by Brian Haig. This is a book loaned to me by my boss and while it is almost interesting in a Beltway-Insider sort of perspective, I find the machismo and the general attitude of the lead character to be trite and predictable.

It’s too bad, because the book has a pretty exciting premise - sort of a challenge for wackos and the author creates a forty-eight hour window that the investigators have to prevent the title of the book from coming to fruition.

I just don’t like the book much due to the general sexism and arrogance of the lead character. I am sure I will find a defining moment where the REAL kinder, gentler nature of this edgy investigator is revealed. When I find it in the book, I will be sure to vomit accordingly.

On another note…I was too young to pay attention to the assassination of John Lennon, but I distincly recall John Hinckley’s attempt on the President in 1981. As an up-and-coming 10-year old, I remember thinking how weird it was that they would use two swear words followed by a third word to describe someone who kills someone else for any reason. You can even make it a question followed by a command: Ass? Ass? In!

Al Franken, Live!

Sarah Jo and I recently won tickets to the Al Franken show here in Missoula, MT. I’ve always enjoyed Al and have been a fan of his writing for years. When he first came on Air America Sojo and I listened quite often, and it was a treat hearing Minnesota’s very own Catherine Lanford co-host because her’s was a show we listened to often on Minnesota Public Radio.

Of course Catherine is no longer doing the show with Al and at first the show suffered for it, but Al’s solo radio skills are improving and he was on top of his game when he performed today. He had an all-star lineup of guests including Governor of Montana Brian Schweitzer and sexy political wonk David Sirota.

Montana is ripe for Al’s sharp liberal wit because it is a red state turning blue, and not just blue but bright blue. Brian Schweitzer was able to get elected by uniting the hunters/fisherman with the environmentalists which is long overdue, and because of the democratic congress he’s been able to protect public lands which were in serious, serious jeopardy. This has resulted in crazy approval ratings of well over 70%. He’s also been able to increase funding for education more than it’s been increased in the last decade. He’s tried to raise the minimum wage and I expect him to be successful after the next election and we can get some more dems in congress. In addition he’s a witty guy and easily kept up with Al’s, often difficult to discern, sarcasm.

If you ever get a chance to see Al live be sure to take it, it’s like listening to Air America without the commercials (the worst part of Air America) and his looks to the audience are really funny–as well as something you don’t get on the radio. His new book is also worth reading, The Truth With Jokes.
